Piraeus Bank Cyprus sponsors the book for the1,000 Years of Russian Presence on Mount Athos.
Piraeus Bank Cyprus has sponsored the book for the 1,000 Years of Russian Presence on Mount Athos. The sponsorship falls under the intensive Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy of the Bank and indicates its ultimate appreciation towards the rich tradition of the Russian culture and civilization.
During the Millennial Anniversary event, which was organized by the Institute of Russian Athos at the Russian Cultural Centre, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Mr. Marios Demetriades stated in his speech that ‘‘Unlike money or other property, heritage cannot be stolen or taken from you as long as you are alive. The 1000-Year Presence on the Sacred Mountain Athos and St. Panteleimon Monastery, is an honor for both the Greeks and the Cypriots! In relation to the Greeks, it is a great honor because the action of choosing this Sacred Mountain for the first Russian settlement on Mount Athos Peninsula 1,000 years ago shows that you have trusted the Greek civilization’’.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Piraeus Bank Cyprus, Mr. George Appios stated that ‘‘Nowadays, in our cynical world, all Banking Institutions more or less offer similar products in an impersonal way. I am pleased to say that what differentiates our Bank from the others is the ability to offer a Relationship and not just a service. We believe in relationships, we build relationships, we invest in trust and human values’’. He personally thanked Mr. Valery Pirokov, Director of the Institute of Russian Athos for the opportunity he gave to Piraeus Bank Cyprus to contribute in the publication of a unique book that is a chronicle of the biography and the lifetime achievements of the Russian Saints of Mount Athos. The book is bilingually published in both Russian and Greek.
The Institute of Russian Athos was founded in 2011 and it consists of a professional team of historians, archivists and philologists. Its aim is to restore the history of Mount Athos that includes among other, the study of the intellectual, political and cultural relations of the Athonian monasteries with the monasteries in Russia, Balkan countries and Western Europe.
